MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE STAUNTON CITY COUNCIL, HELD IN THE PUBLIC WORKS BUILDING, 914 NORTH EASTON ST., STAUNTON, ILLINOIS ON MONDAY, JULY 23, 2018

 

I.          CALL TO ORDER:

 

            Mayor Craig Neuhaus called the Staunton City Council Meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, July 23, 2018

 

II.        PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:

 

            Mayor Craig Neuhaus led the Pledge Allegiance to the Flag.

 

 III.      ROLL CALL:

 

            City Clerk Stiegemeier called roll with the following persons

            Received a Letter of Resignation from part time police officer Mathew Tranter, dated

            July 10, 2018

 

            Received a Liquor License Application from St. Michael’s Parish for their annual

Octoberfest, which will be held on October 6 and 7, 2018.  They are asking to have   the license fee waived for the event.

 

Received a letter from Julie Jarman, Director of Staunton Public Library requesting  to use the court yard area in front of the band stand at City Hall on Friday, August 17, 2018 for a 105th Birthday Party Celebration.  They will be celebrating the 105th year as a City Library.

Motion by Bodner, seconded by Johnson to grant request from St. Michael’s Parish to issue a liquor license for their annual Octoberfest on October 6 and 7, 2018, with the liquor license fee being waived.  Ayes:  Johnson, Scroggins, Pritchett, Scanzoni, Bodner.  Nayes:  Garde, Schrauth, Plenske.  Absent:  None.  Motion carried.

 

            PARK & CIVIC IMPROVEMENT –

UTILITIES-

 

Motion by Garde, seconded by Plenske to pay Invoice #0171326 to Midwest Municipal Supply for materials used on meter updates at the Macoupin County Housing Complex in the amount of $2,695.52.  Ayes:  Scroggins, Schrauth, Plenske, Pritchett, Scanzoni, Bodner, Garde, Johnson.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Garde, seconded by Scroggins to pay invoice dated July 13, 2018 to John H. Crawford & Associates for Water Line Replacement IEPA Permit for Hibbard, 5th, Page Henry, Spring and Lillian Streets in the amount of $33,440.25.  Ayes:  Schrauth, Plenske, Pritchett, Scanzoni, Bodner, Garde, Johnson, Scroggins.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Garde, seconded by Johnson to pay Invoice #434906 to Sandberg, Phoenix & von Gontard for professional services rendered regarding water treatment plant litigation in the amount of $1,575.17.  Ayes:  Plenske, Pritchett, Scanzoni, Bodner, Garde, Johnson, Scroggins, Schrauth.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.  Motion carried.

 

STREET-

 

Motion by Garde, seconded by Plenske to accept bid from Schulte Supply for stock plastic culverts in the amount of $4,565.10.  Ayes:  Pritchett, Scanzoni, Bodner, Garde, Johnson, Scroggins, Schrauth, Plenske.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Garde, seconded by Johnson to accept bid from Metal Culverts, Inc. for stock metal culverts in the amount of $15,215.50.  Ayes:  Scanzoni, Bodner, Garde, Johnson, Scroggins, Schrauth, Plenske, Pritchett.  Nayes:  None.  Absent:  None.  Motion carried.

XI.     NEW BUSINESS-

             

On behalf of the entire City Council, Mayor Neuhaus thanked two employees for their  many years of service to the City of Staunton.  Recently, City Hall Emplyee Cindy Broderick left after 24 years and 5 months of service, and Police Officer Mike Mertz retired after 11 years and 5 months of service.  Mayor Neuhaus wished them both the best for their future plans.
