City Council Meeting Minutes--May 14, 2018

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE STAUNTON CITY COUNCIL, HELD IN THE PUBLIC WORKS BUILDING, 914 NORTH EASTON ST., STAUNTON, ILLINOIS ON MONDAY, MAY 14, 2018

I. CALL TO ORDER:

Mayor Craig Neuhaus called the Staunton City Council Meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, May 14, 2018

II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:

Mayor Craig Neuhaus led the Pledge Allegiance to the Flag.

III. ROLL CALL:

City Clerk Stiegemeier called roll with the following persons

ATTENDING: Councilmembers Maria Bodner, Rich Garde, Ray Scroggins, Chad Plenske, Anthony Schrauth, Ryan Pritchett, Mayor Craig Neuhaus, City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier, City Treasurer Cindy Pirok, City Attorney Phil Lading, Public Works Director Mike Kuethe and Police Chief Jeff Doerr.

ELECTRONIC ATTENDANCE: Alderman Jeff Scanzoni.

NOT ATTENDING: Alderman Rick Johnson.

Alderman Scanzoni lost cell phone service at this time and was not available for the next several motions.

V. GUESTS

Dave Volentine from Rooster’s Pub stated that he has contacted 97.5 The Rock radio station, and Dave has asked them if they would like to do a live broadcast the day of Ribfest. Mayor Neuhaus will be in touch with Mr. Volentine regarding the details.

Derrick Taylor, lead pastor of Net Community Church was in attendance asking for the Council’s support of the Ordinance that will be voted on at tonight’s meeting regarding the request for a Special Use Permit for the property at 1255 S. Hackman Street. Derrick presented a hand out to the Council, outlining several of their intended “perks” to the City, should the church acquire the property. A copy of the complete hand out is attached with tonight’s meeting minutes.

VI. CORRESPONDENCE

Received a Letter of Resignation from part time City Hall employee Cynthia Broderick, effective April 30, 2018

Received a Letter of Resignation from part time Police Dispatcher James Bianco,

effective May 9, 2018

Received an email from Rooster’s Pub requesting to close Elm Street from Main Street to Duda Garden on Sunday, May 20th from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. for a Poker Run. They are also asking the City to provide barricades for the event.

Received a request from the VFW Post #1241 asking the City to furnish hot dogs for the lunch after the Memorial Day Parade. A purchase order will be filled out for the food.

Received a letter from Norman Carnaby regarding his Eagle Scout Project that he

presented at the last City Council Meeting. He will be erecting a memorial at Duda

Garden, and a copy of his letter is included with the agenda packet.

Received an email from Carrie Borgini, Staunton Chamber of Commerce President,

requesting to close Main Street from Union to Edwardsville Street, and to close Elm

Street from the First National Bank driveway, going north to Duda Garden. This is for the Route 66 Festival and Touch A Truck Event that will be held on Saturday June 9, 2018, from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

VII. TREASURER’S REPORT

Investment recently cashed in at Bank of Springfield:

Bond / Interest Fund--$150,000.00 plus $902.02 interest

VIII. CITY CLERK’S REPORT

The computer software upgrade and training has been completed at City Hall.
