MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE STAUNTON CITY COUNCIL, HELD AT THE RALPH & JOSEPHINE OLTMANN COMMUNITY CENTER, 101 W. PEARL ST., STAUNTON, ILLINOIS ON MONDAY, AUGUST 22, 2022


I. CALL TO ORDER:


Mayor Craig Neuhaus called the Staunton City Council Meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, August 22, 2022.


II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:

Mayor Craig Neuhaus led the Pledge Allegiance to the Flag.


III. ROLL CALL:

City Clerk Stiegemeier called roll with the following persons

ATTENDING: Councilmembers David Manning, David Dias, Ryan Machota, John Moore, Mayor Craig Neuhaus, City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier and Public Works Director Mike Kuethe.


ELECTRONIC ATTENDANCE: Alderman Rick Johnson.


NOT ATTENDING: Aldermen Randy Hanks and Chad Plenske, City Attorney Phil Lading and City Treasurer Cindy Pirok.

IV. APPOINTMENT AND OATH OF OFFICE

Motion by Moore, seconded by Dias to approve Resolution #2022-17 Appointing Terry Tipler To The Position Of Ward 4 Alderman For The City Of Staunton, Illinois. At Roll Call Vote – Ayes: Dias, Johnson, Machota, Moore, Manning. Nayes: None. Absent: Hanks, Plenske. Motion carried.


City Clerk Stiegemeier administered the Oath of Office to newly appointed Ward 4 Alderman Terry Tipler.

VII . CORRESPONDENCE

Received a letter of resignation from Ward 4 Alderman Jeffrey Scanzoni, dated August 18, 2022. His resignation is effective immediately.


Received an email from the Staunton Chamber of Commerce requesting to close Main Street from Edwardsville Street to Union Street on Friday evening, December 2nd from 4:00 to 8:00 and Saturday, December 3rd from 6:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. for the Christmas Tree Lighting and Snack with Santa. They are also asking to keep Main Street closed from Wood Street to Elm Street from 8:00 P.M. on December 2nd until 8:00 A.M. on December 3rd.


Received a letter from Republic Services informing customers that they have purchased the Robert Sanders Waste System business. A copy of the letter is attached with the agenda packet.

C.J. Schlosser has completed their on-site work for the annual audit. Everything went very smoothly.

Motion by Manning, seconded by Dias to grant request from the Staunton Chamber of Commerce to close Main Street from Edwardsville Street to Union Street on Friday, December 2nd from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and also on Saturday, December 3rd from 6:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., and also closing Main Street from Wood Street to Elm Street from 8:00 P.M. on Friday, December 2nd until 8:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 3rd for the Christmas Tree Lighting and Snack with Santa. At Roll Call Vote – Ayes: Machota, Moore, Tipler, Manning, Dias, Johnson. Nayes: None. Absent: Hanks, Plenske. Motion carried.


Motion by Manning, seconded by Moore to approve quote from Axon Enterprise, Inc. for body cameras for the police department in the amount of $20,000.00. At Roll Call Vote – Ayes: Machota, Moore, Tipler, Manning, Dias, Johnson. Nayes: None. Absent: Hanks, Plenske. Motion carried.
